The Memory Of Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff Bruce Sutton

Bruce Sutton, a native of Madison, Indiana lost his life, in the line of duty, while serving with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department near Madison, Indiana.

Deputy Sutton was responding to a domestic violence call on Dugan Hollow Road where weapons were reported, and as he approached the location he met a vehicle travelling toward him on a winding and hilly gravel roadway.

According to the Indiana State Police Invesigation, Deputy Sutton's patrol vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, down a steep embankment and while airborne the drivers side struck a tree.

Funeral services were held at the Madison High School on December 17th with burial at the New Marion Cemetery in New Marion, Indiana.

Bruce Sutton is survived by his wife Melissa, his mother, three sisters and one brother. His Jefferson County Radio Number, 39-13 will be retired.



At the November 10, 2009 Jefferson County Sheriff's Merit Board Meeting, Sheriff Bill Andrews announced Deputies Shane Gibson and Bruce Sutton had reached their one year employment anniversary, and the Merit Boad voted unanimously to remove them from probationary status.
